MI5 Warns of Al-Qaida Suicide Bombers Using Ambulances Filled With Explosives

This is not really a new threat, as it was considered a possibility for sometime that this could happen.

What is new however is that it was recently uncovered by MI5 during an investigation that Al-Qaida was using the website auctioneer eBay to make purchases of emergency vehicles such as Ambulances, with the intent of using them as IED's (Improvised Explosive Devices) within the United Kingdom.

Even more disturbing it seems that eBay, who was asked by Counter-terrorism officials in the U.K., to stop selling emergency service vehicles, equipment and uniforms. However, eBay refused saying it would only do so if a new law is passed.

Assistant chief constable Steve Watts of Hampshire police is chairing a national security committee which is drawing up plans to tackle the terrorist threat. He said: “What concerns me is the lack of legislation available for the police service to adequately address the threat of pseudo-emergency service vehicles used in such an environment.”

Carlile said: “As independent reviewer of terrorism legislation, I take this issue very seriously. In my view, as a general rule, all emergency service vehicles should be clearly decommissioned so they cannot be used to imitate emergency services.”
