Two Men Detained In Sweden For Alleged Nuclear Sabotage

Traces of an explosive were found on a bag being carried by a contract welder at a security check point at the Oskarshamn nuclear power plant in the country's southeast.

The explosive, TATP was on the handle of the bag the worker was carrying and was the same substance used in the 2005 London bombings which killed 52 people. The substance is one of the most sensitive explosives in the world because of its reactivity to heat, impact and friction, according to research group GlobalSecurity.org. Its main ingredients, which include bleach and acetone, can be bought in pharmacies and hardware stores.

This story is still breaking news and subject to change

Update: 7.9 Earthquake In China

The 7.9 Earthquake that hit China several days ago has been devastating with over 19,500 reported dead as of this writing and estimated projections are putting that number at around 50,000. The magnitude was increased from early reports of it being a 7.8 quake.

Massive damage to critical infrastructure has also taken its toll. At least one school and one hospital were completely destroyed along with countless homes leveled to the ground.

Bridges collapsed and about 400 dams were damaged, some with severe cracks that workers are currently trying to repair before they burst.

China has sent about 130,000 troops to assist with rescue efforts, but getting them to the epicenter has been tough, as most roads are still obstructed with debris. The country has also attempted several airdrops of aid and rescuers but was called off after being deemed unsuccessful.

Worries of epidemics are also setting in, but so far no disease outbreaks have been reported. However, with the recent surge in several diseases such as Hand, Foot and Mouth disease and with the Bird Flu virus making a strong comeback across the Asian Continent at the moment it could compound an already difficult situation.

I'll report more on this as more stories and reports expand on the China Earthquake.

Tamiflu May Not Be Enough For The Next Pandemic

As various countries are stockpiling Tamiflu (also known as oseltamivir) in defense of a Bird Flu (H5N1) pandemic it was released today that the virus quickly mutates to become resistant against this drug and may require multiple drugs in order to fight off the disease in infected people.

Researchers in London discovered the mutation causing resistance and suggested that Governments should stockpile multiple antiviral drugs. Dr Steven Gamblin, of the National Institute for Medical Research, who led the research, said: "It is likely a future pandemic will need to be tackled using a three or four-pronged approach, much as we tackle HIV today."

The institute was also critical of the U.K. Governement for only stockpiling the drug Tamiflu.

Deadliest Tornado Season In A Decade

This year has been one of the deadliest years on record for tornadoes in a decade the death toll has already reached 100 and it is still early in the season as well. Twenty two were killed this weekend alone.

In addition there were a few tornadoes that struck during February which is rare, but not unheard of, which kicked off the start of the season early. This was attributed to the mild winter and unseasonably warm weather across the country.

While I did make a number of posts earlier this year, I again think it is important to mention how important it is to be prepared and take appropriate action during severe weather, especially tornadoes.

Click the following link for more on Tornado Safety Here you can find a video on Severe Weather Safety and here is a small but excellent post on the Warning Signs of an approaching Tornado again with videos to watch.

One thing I will say here is please, please do not stay in your cars, and please seek shelter or a safe place if you are in an area where a tornado is approaching.
