Improvised Explosive Device Explodes Inside California Prision

An IED was found during a search this week at Victorville Federal Penitentiary during a "routine search of inmate property" said Traci Billingsley a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson. She also said that the device "detonated upon discovery."

Though it was stated that the incident was not terrorist related, and no one was injured in the blast, it is not 100% clear if it was intended to injure one of the guards.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and the FBI bomb squads wree called to the scene to ensure that the device didn't pose any further danger.

FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said an investigation was under way.

Billingsley said the prison was locked down at the time the device was found. She could not say what prompted the lockdown, or if there was any connection to the search. No inmates were in the area when the explosion occurred.

"The prison remains secure," she said.

Pakistan Admits Mumbai Attacks Planned On Their Soil

For the first time Pakistan admitted that the Mumbai terror attacks were planned inside their country.

Pakistan’s Interior Ministry Adviser Rehman Malik told a press conference that “some part of the conspiracy has taken place in Pakistan,” adding that eight people had been arrested – including a few named by India as masterminds.

But he also unveiled a slew of foreign links pointing to a network of “non-state actors” providing logistical support from around the globe. These include:

  • Internet phone accounts arranged in Barcelona
  • a digital teleconferencing system in Houston
  • the use of Indian mobile phone connections
  • a domain name registered in Russia
  • a satellite phone registered in a Middle Eastern country
  • further links to Austria and Italy.

Victoria Police Hunt For Suspect Wanted In Connection To Australian Wildfires

Composite photo released on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 by the Victoria State Police

Police are hunting for multiple arson suspects that have allegedly set wildfires in Victoria Australia, and have released the composite photo above of one of the possible suspects.

Though it is being reported that the fires are currently no longer a threat to residents, the current death toll is around 181 people and is expected to rise. Many of those who were killed, died while trying to escape in their cars.

Australia has had a history of wildfires, though these are the worst on record. In addition to the deaths, about 5,000 people have been left homeless.

Australians have raised almost A$34m ($22m) to help ravaged communities, this is on top of A$15m Mr Rudd pledged.

Disaster Tip of The Week: Create A Business Continuity Plan For Your Business

This week I wanted to focus on what small businesses should do to prepare for disasters. Acording to the SBA, there are over 27 miliion small businesses in the United States, and employ approxamitey half of all the employed people in the country.

Yet small businesses often fail to prepare for disasters, leaving the owners, employees and clients at risk of losing their business, jobs, and providers of goods and services respectively.

Prepareing your business for a disaster does not have to be complicaeted and often just a few well spent dollars, and the proper planning can make all the difference in being able to stay open after a calamity.

Below is a FREE REPORT, called The Impotance of Business Continuity, that you can use to help get you started planing your business continuity plan today.
